I mostly work with the light coming from behind, probably for the mystery that it brings. It’s not always easy because there is often a lack of information in the face, but through the years I have developed some tricks with reflection. I prefer to watch and follow my model, trying to catch the best light in the best angles. Then, an idea comes to life. I know exactly what I want, where I will go and how I will proceed. This painting was born the minute I saw the composition made with her hair, arms and rowing paddle perpendicular with the side of the canoe.
